First Week Of Filming Complete On ‘Band Of Brothers’ Semi-Sequel, ‘Masters Of The Air’

Famed HBO series, Band of Brothers is finally getting a sequel produced by Tom Hanks. Masters of the Air will follow in the footsteps of arguably the most beloved World War Two television series of all time. This time, we'll be following a different band of gentlemen through the horrors of war - as the name suggest, the show will focus on a group of pilots.

If you're unfamiliar with Band of Brothers, it's a show from the early '00s made in a similar style to Saving Private Ryan. Gritty and dark, the story follows a group of men from the beginnings of their military careers through to the end of the war, and what they have to endure in between. It's well known for being some of the highest quality TV that audiences had seen upon release, having the budget of a Hollywood film, and is still considered one of the most accurate depictions of World War II to come out of America. Here's the trailer of the original series if you've not seen it before (or if you just want to relive how excellent it was).

Cary Fukunaga, the director of a few episodes of the new Masters of the Air series, has shared that the first week of filming has been completed on the series. Spotted by GameSpot, the director shared a photo celebrating the occasion with actor Austin Butler hiding his face behind a clapperboard.

Though we don't have many details on the project yet, we do know that Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman have reunited for the project, after working on the original twenty years ago. Though the original Band of Brothers appeared on HBO services, this series will appear on Apple TV+ instead after Apple bought it.

As filming has only really just commenced, we don't expect to see the series until next year at the earliest.
