It looks as if HBO's The Last Of Us is gearing up to start filming in the next few days. Pedro Pascal, who'll be playing Joel in the adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game, has arrived in Calgary, Canada alongside series director Kantemir Balagov.
As spotted by PSU, an image from Balagov's Instagram Story shows he's in the city with Pascal, who's sporting some suitably gruff Joel-style facial hair. Given that it was confirmed back in April that production on The Last Of Us would kick off in July in Calgary, it's more than safe to assume this is why Pascal and Balagov are currently relaxing in the city. July is tomorrow, after all... because 2021 is suddenly already halfway over and time is meaningless.

Balagov is attached to direct the pilot episode of The Last Of Us. We already know that the show will be a pretty faithful adaptation of the 2013 game, so it's likely episode one will focus on the game's gut-wrenching prologue, in which we see the initial outbreak of 2013 and Joel and brother Tommy's escape from the city, as well as the shocking death of Joel's daughter Sarah. Should be a real laugh-a-minute ride.
Don't be surprised if Bella Thorne's Ellie doesn't show up in the first episode at all, to be honest. Unless HBO decides to remix things a little bit and dive into Joel's past via flashbacks, the wide-eyed hero of our story doesn't actually show up in the original game until around an hour in. Still, I've no doubt it'll be worth the wait, and that Pascal and Thorne will make a wonderful team.
