Craig Mazin, writer on the upcoming The Last Of Us TV series from HBO, has announced that there will be a "modest" update on the show soon.

Originally announced in March 2020, Mazin will collaborate with creative director Neil Druckmann to adapt the critically acclaimed and impactful survival action game into a new medium. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will be an "engrossing tale of the post-apocalypse, centering on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic." Expectedly, the series will encompass the events of The Last of Us, but that isn't to say that it won't reference what transpires in its sequel. Druckmann confirmed that the characters Ellie, Riley, Tess, Marlene, and Maria will feature in the show, as well as a four-lettered name that had been blanked out.

We don't know for certain, but it's likely that Abby is that mystery character, seeing that her existence and role in The Last of Us Part 2 was kept secret for a very long time. However, the showrunners may shed a little light on the project very soon, owing to this post from Mazin. "There will be some modest TLOU news soon enough," he said on Twitter. "We are hard at work writing and... you know... other stuff." Understandably, the team have had numerous irons in the fire at this early stage in the show's development, and have been contending with the strain that the pandemic has placed on the entertainment industry.

In fact, Mazin is specifically responding to a tweet about the president-elect of the United States, showing that, alongside a packed schedule for various projects, everyone's also wanting some sort of stability in 2021. Well, we could offer our services to Mazin and the team, and draw up a cast list for the show for their consideration. Maisie Williams, renowned for her role in Game of Thrones, was attached to the movie adaptation of The Last of Us back in 2015. On appearances alone, her character in Two Weeks To Live puts her in raggedy garbs befitting an angsty survivor in an apocalyptic world. We'd love to see it, all in all.

On the other hand, a good pick for Joel would be his actual actor, Troy Baker. Sadly, Baker's after a role as a nameless, possibly voiceless part as an Infected who gets exploded by the hero. Go big or go home, I suppose. But, I could certainly see Timothy Olyphant putting in a major shift as Joel Miller. He's the guy who played Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian, and he's got experience in zombie and apocalyptic TV shows and movies, in both Santa Clarita Diet and The Crazies. Think about it, and give us a ring, HBO. Let's chat.
