Here Is Our First Look At The Joker In Zack Snyder’s 'Justice League'

The Joker is one of those iconic figures in nerd culture. A symbol of madness to some or a signifier of disillusionment to others - the Joker acts as a force of deranged power tearing through DC's universes. That grin, that laugh, that 'damaged' forehead tattoo. Wait, that last one isn't so expected. When Jared Leto appeared as the Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad his performance wasn't the iconic Joker figure many wanted, but now we're seeing how Leto is going to perform the same character in Zack Synder's Justice League set to release in March.

The images from Vanity Fair show that this Joker isn't exactly the same as the one we met in Suicide Squad. Leto's makeup is far more of that messy, grotesque clown look you'd see on Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight trilogy from Christopher Nolan. Rather than the pimp-styled clothing and extravagant tattoos, this Joker is in sensible shoes and a ragged surgeon's scrubs. A cold stare and disheveled hair gives this Joker a far-removed appearance from Leto's previous outings as the character - something fans might be pleased about.

Zack Synder was given the opportunity by HBO to release a 'true' version of 2017's Justice League after he left the project prematurely and the film released to less than impressive critical reception. The Joker was not included in the original film and according to Vanity Fair's report on the next Joker details, it was only post-release that Snyder thought about including the famous DC villain.

These next details are considered a spoiler, so just a quick warning in advance if you don't want to know any details about how The Joker is included in the film, stop reading here. The inclusion of The Joker will come as a ghostly sort of presence - a warning of the future to come if the Justice League does not succeed in preventing the Darkseid's invasion of earth. He will appear to Bruce Wayne in a vision and is a symbol of horror and a broken world on the horizon. Interesting, right?

Well if you're interested in the Snyder cut of the film, it'll be out in March 2021 on HBO's streaming service HBO Max.
