If you grew up with some of the original Pokémon games then you might have had a "wait a second" sort of moment when you saw the Pokemon you knew from the show. All of them were a little, off - the models aren't in the vibrant beautiful colours you see hanging out with Ash Ketchum on the TV; they're gray, beige, and blue.

Of course, technical limitations prevented Game Freak from making the sprites in the original games look as good as they do in Pokémon Sword and Shield, however, one dedicated fan has made the originals look incredible through hours and hours of recolouring.

User Red_O_Zone has spent two months working on a project to rework all the original 151 Pokémon sprites from Gen 1 into what they would have looked like with their correct colours. This means going through every single Pokémon and making sure they get the right hues, the right shading and that they're recognisable on screen (which is harder than you might think).

The artist kindly has laid out all of the fantastic recreations in a poster that you can download if you like, or alternatively they've put together a zip file will each and every Pokémon so you can pick our your favourites whenever you want. We have to mention that when you download the file it's called a Pokedex and that warranted a mention as the best and most accurate name for a file we have ever downloaded from the internet.

Not only does the file contain the adorable Pokémon but it also features some other familiar iconography. You'll get the proper blue and yellow Pokémon logo, the Kanto bages and even the text box you use to pick out the names for your new companions. Who knew that just a few pixels could contain so much notasalgia? Thanks Red_O_Zone these are awesome.
