Death Stranding doesn't even release for another two months, but it looks like Hideo Kojima already has his eyes set on the next project for Kojima Productions. Despite the fact that the upcoming PS4-exclusive is currently in its super-crucial "crunch" period in which the team really gets its collective nose to the grindstone to get everything to where it should be in time for launch, a recent Tweet from Kojima himself has implied he's already thinking about the future.

In an update, the Metal Gear creator revealed that he's currently polishing up Death Stranding while making final preparations for TGS, where the game will apparently have an insane 49-minute trailer. He also specifically made mention of "the next project", and the fact that he wants to become a crab. With any other developer, I don't think we could assume that the two statements were linked in any way, but this is Kojima - pretty much everything he says has some kind of double-meaning.

See for yourself below.

If we can't take anything else away from this, I think we can safely say that Kojima works himself way too hard. He's been working on Death Stranding since early 2016 at the absolute earliest, and now he plans to jump straight into the next project? Take a break, my man. I hear Bruges is nice this time of year.

While the two events are probably completely unrelated, it's also worth noting that around the time Kojima teased his new project, none other than the inimitable Keanu Reeves paid a visit to the Death Stranding studio to meet Kojima and his team. Was it simply a social call, or something more? Does... does Kojima want Keanu Reeves to do the motion capture for a game in which you play as a crab? Who can honestly say at this point.

Keanu Reeves is all set to appear in CD Projekt RED's upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, and we also know that the actor was once considered for a role in Death Stranding (a role which ultimately went to Mads Mikkelsen). Given Kojima's propensity for working with big-name actors, it's not the wildest possibility that the pair could have at least discussed a potential collaboration going forward.

For now I'd advise we just wait and see. I'm not one to connect dots where dots need not be connected, so let's just wait for Death Stranding to come out so we can all argue over what the hell the game's actually about before we start wildly speculating over any potential sequels or follow-up projects.
