How much Star Wars is too much Star Wars?

Electronic Arts might have lost the exclusive license to publish Star Wars titles in the wake Lucasfilm Games' return, but that doesn't mean it's done with the franchise forever.

In a post over on the official Star Wars blog earlier this month, Douglas Reilly, VP of Lucasfilms Games, said: "we're really proud of the games we have created with EA".

"We will continue working with them and our relationship has never been stronger. While we may not have a lot of details to share at the moment, we've got a number of projects underway with the talented teams at EA."

The big takeaway from this, of course, is that EA still has some games to share with us... and that we won't have long to wait to find out about them. Current rumours suggest that announcements for Star Wars Battlefront III and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 will be leading the charge this year.

These claims were made by an anonymous source over on Reddit. This tends to mean that you should keep a pinch of salt handy, but it's interesting to note that this particular "leaker" shared the news that a Knights Of The Old Republic sequel was being worked on outside of EA roughly a day before it was anywhere else.

In addition to the KOTOR news, they said that Battlefront III is currently "very" early on in development, and that DICE is attempting to "re-invent" the franchise. This isn't the first time we've heard Battlefront III could be a major departure from the last two games. They also suggest that we should expect an announcement early this year, but it's unlikely to be anything more exciting than a logo.

As for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2? The leaker claims that the game is much further on in development at Respawn than we might have expected, going so far as to claim that the studio started work on it even before the first Jedi: Fallen Order released in 2019. We'd seen job listings that all but confirmed the existence of a sequel as far back as December 2019, so this could well be true. No release date for the game was given, but they claim an announcement will most likely take place in the second half of 2021.

Between the rumours of Battlefront III, Jedi Fallen Order 2, Knights Of The Old Republic III, and all the other Star Wars games currently in development at Lucasfilm Games, it's a good time to be a Star Wars fan.
