John Wick Writer Reportedly Penning 'Dungeons & Dragons' Live-Action TV Series

We didn’t know we needed this series until now.

There was a time when Dungeons & Dragons seemed pretty uncool. Talking about elves, tieflings, and goliaths seems like a really niche hobby to have, especially when you're rolling dice to determine if you managed to stab an orc. Although D&D has its haters and disbelievers, it looks like a lot of mainstream media recognises its endless story potential, and now the writer of the John Wick series is apparently penning a TV series based on the game.

Derek Kolstad (who's the guy responsible for the John Wick franchise) is apparently writing a live-action TV series based on the tabletop RPG according to Variety, and if that's true, we can't wait. This wouldn't be the first time that Dungeons and Dragons has come to film and TV - a few movies based entirely on D&D came out between 2000 and 2012. And you might remember that's a Dungeons and Dragons film on the way that is slated for a 2022 release date which could star Chris Pine.

This sounds like it might be a little different though - John Wick isn't a series that's known for being suitable for the whole family, is it? It could be a far grittier version of a fantasy world. On the other hand, Kolstad is also the guy responsible for writing Disney Plus's upcoming miniseries, The Falcon and the Winter Solider. Marvel's ever-expanding Marvel universe sees Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes embark on what is sure to be another action-packed adventure in March 2021. So with a Disney framing in mind, this Dungeons & Dragons series might be less John Wick and more Avengers, in terms of violence.

If Kolstad did go down the hyper-violence route like the three John Wick films, that would be something fans would be totally down for. Just swap out the guns for fireballs and we'd be set for an epic adventure.
