We never thought it'd happen, but it sounds like a brand new Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic game is finally in development.
The classic Knights Of The Old Republic was developed by BioWare and released way back in 2003, and has since gained a devoted following. A sequel from fellow RPG aficionados Obsidian was released in 2004, but the series has remained completely dead since then. It was hoped by many that EA, who owns BioWare, would revive KOTOR when it won the exclusive rights to publish Star Wars video games back in 2013.
That didn't happen, of course, and now EA has lost those exclusive rights as Lucasfilm Games returns to work with developers and publishers on a wider range of Star Wars projects. We've already heard that one such title is an open-world project from Ubisoft Massive. Now, it seems, a KOTOR sequel is moving ahead without EA or BioWare.
This news comes from multiple sources, most notably reliable Star Wars insider podcast Bespin Bulletin (via VGC), which confirmed that the project is a-go with an unnamed developer. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier also took to ResetEra recently to tease that we'll never guess who is developing this hotly antipcated title. That, to me, would suggest that Obsidian won't be returning to the franchise either.

"Amongst my digging, I heard there is a Knights of the Old Republic project in development somewhere," Bespin Bulletin said. "I talked to a couple of people, and I also found out that Jason Schreier said that it's not with EA, and we'll 'never guess' who the studio is that's making this game."
"I don't know if the bounty hunter game is with them or if it's with Ubisoft," Bulletin added. "But yeah, EA is working on stuff and there's another unannounced game at EA, which I have no idea what it is. I don't think it's Battlefront 3."
It seems like it's early days for this mysterious KOTOR reboot. For now, all we can do is wait for further news and speculate on which studio could possibly have picked up the much-loved series for a new instalment. With Ubisoft Massive developing a Star Wars game, Bethesda working on a Indiana Jones game, and Hitman studio IO Interactive working on Bond, clearly anything is possible these days. I'm kind of hoping FromSoftware surprises us all.
