‘Knights Of The Old Republic 3’ Might Be Developed By Former BioWare Staff

We know you're all very excited about the prospect of a third game in the Star Wars-set Knights of the Old Republic series - a cursory glance at the stats on our news of its potential development tells us that. With evidence growing that KOTOR 3 is, indeed, a valid project that's underway, we now have more news on who, exactly, might be making it happen.

PSU reports that Aspyr Media might be one of the studios involved in the threequel - the follow-up to 2004's Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. The Austin, Texas-based developer and publisher has worked on the re-releases of a handful of other Star Wars titles, including Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and also has the likes of Layers of Fear and Civilization VI amongst its porting and publishing credits. Aspyr also ported The Sith Lords to Linux and Mac, and developed its 2015 Steam re-release.

Where this gets additionally interesting is that Aspyr has recently brought in some developers from BioWare's Austin office - and BioWare is the developer of 2003's original Knights of the Old Republic. With both Aspyr's own Star Wars past considered and its acquisition of staff from the makers of the original KOTOR, twos are being added to other twos to make... a four that's very promising, indeed.

PSU cites the Twitter user (and games industry analyst, according to their bio) MauroNL, whose digging into these matters has led them to conclude that, yes, maybe, probably, Aspyr Media is working on the next KOTOR game.

MauroNL explains that recent job listings at Aspyr point to a game in the vein of a third KOTOR: "Aspyr has multiple openings available, from Designers in Combat, Levels and Cinematics to UI/UX and Animation. Most mention them working on a 'AAA Role-Playing Game in UE4' with 'interactive conversations and narrative-driven cinematic content'."

They continue: "Furthermore the Combat Designer needs to be 'passionate about Action Combat and have a love for RPGs'. Secondly, as is pointed out by Russian website DTF, Aspyr has been hiring a lot of ex-BioWare Austin developers these past years. BioWare is the original creator of KOTOR."

Now, none of this is confirmation that Aspyr Media is busy making KOTOR 3 - but where there's smoke, there's so often an Ewok village on fire. And what's not exciting about that? I mean, it's not all that exciting for the Ewoks, I guess. But Ewoks suck. No Bothans, however, died to bring us this information, you'll be pleased to hear.
