Now that Death Stranding is finally out there in the world, confusing and enchanting people in equal measure, we have to wonder what Hideo Kojima is planning next. The good news is that Kojima, one of the busiest men in gaming, is already planning is next move.

Whatever he has up his sleeve, it seems a safe bet that it's another stab (pun intended) at the horror genre. According to a recent tweet from the Metal Gear creator, he's been preparing for his next project by watching a ton of horror films to "awaken his horror soul". The end goal, apparently, is to "make the scariest horror game".

Fans of the developer will no doubt remember that his last attempt at a horror title was the promising-but-doomed Silent Hills reboot, with director Guillermo del Toro.

While we were infamously deprived of a full game, the collaboration did result in the terrifying P.T. demo. To this day, the brief PS4 exclusive teaser remains one of the most thought-provoking, poop-inducing horror experiences in gaming. The news that Kojima is finally ready to return to horror should excite us all, then.

As Kojima mentions in his tweet above, he actually really struggles with horror movies. As someone who has to physically leave a room if a scary movie is playing, I understand where he's coming from.

Obviously that didn't stop him from crafting the scariest corridor in gaming when he dropped P.T. all those years ago. Maybe being actively terrified by horror movies in a way horror buffs might not be works to his advantage when it comes to developing uniquely hair-raising interactive experiences?

Whatever the case, if Kojima really is cooking up a horror game for his next project, I'll be terrified/excited to see what the developer can do to build on P.T. - especially since he's independent from Konami these days, and will presumably have more freedom to do what he wants with the project.

Now, if he can get del Toro to team up with him again and deliver Silent Hills in all but name, then we're very much living in the best timeline.
