Tired of waiting for Bethesda to tell us more about The Elder Scrolls VI? Looking for a brand-new RPG in a similar vein to scratch that itch for adventure you have? My friend, Wayward Realms could be just the game you're looking for.

Way back in 2019 (which feels like precisely 1,000 years ago) former Elder Scrolls lead developers Julian LeFay and Ted Peterson announced a new studio: OnceLost Games. At the time, the pair teased that their first project would be an ambitious new RPG in the vein of classics like Arena and Daggerfall. Two years later, we finally have a first-look at what they've been working on.

Take a look at the striking teaser trailer below:

"The Wayward Realms is set on a group of over 100 realistically scaled islands, known collectively as the Archipelago, where scores of factions vie for influence and power," according to the announcement. "Kingdoms strive to maintain their dominance, upstarts seek to earn a place at the top, and dynasties set generational plots into motion. Should the player earn a position of prominence, they may change the course of history."

The game's Steam page also teases that the world of The Wayward Realms is "way bigger than most games you can think of. Big cities with hundreds or thousands of NPCs, deep, dark, dangerous forests, gigantic mountain ranges, sprawling swamps and marshlands, vast oceans, and more, brought to life through dynamic, procedural generation."

Indecisive players will also be glad to know that they aren't bound to a single class in The Wayward Realms. You can create your own custom skills and abilities as you explore a world that reacts differently depending on who you are and the actions you take. "World events have very different effects in the life of a socializing aristocrat, a thief entrenched in underworld conspiracies, a scholar collecting ancient artifacts, or whatever role you craft for yourself."

It all sounds like a lot, and you do have to wonder if The Wayward Realms will be able to deliver on every one of its promises. Sadly we have no idea when the game is expected to release, so it could be a while before we find out. With that said, if this RPG can do half of what it's saying it can, it could end up an instant classic.
