‘Back 4 Blood’, 'Left 4 Dead' Successor, Has Been Delayed

The spiritual successor to the hugely popular Left 4 Dead series, Back 4 Blood, has been delayed. Developers Turtle Rock Studios say that the team needs more time to polish the game and make it the best it can be before the release. As such, they've announced that the zombie co-op shooter has been moved back to later in the year, but there's also a silver lining in that we've now got confirmation of an open beta in the summer.

If somehow you've never seen or played Left 4 Dead or its sequel, you might not know the series is regarded as one of the best co-op shooter experiences out there. Four mates against a horde of zombies, with super-powered undead mixed in, it was always a blast to play. Now the original creators of the Left 4 Dead series have stepped away from Valve and into their own studio to revisit the co-op experience at its essence.

The delay announcement reads: "Turtle Rock Studios is working hard to make Back 4 Blood the best game it can possibly be at launch and the team needs more time to do this. Therefore, we will release Back 4 Blood on October 12, 2021. We thank our community for its continued support and are excited to share that there will be an open beta this summer."

The original release of Back 4 Blood was set to be just a few months from now, in June of 2021. This close to a release, we're sure that if the devs don't think the game is ready yet, then the sensible thing to do is to delay the title by just a little bit. After all, games from a number of studios are finding it harder to work in pandemic conditions; and with the messy release of Cyberpunk 2077, everyone now knows that sometimes the right thing to do is to just wait a little longer for the game you expect.
