The force is strong with this one

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga might just be one of my most-antipcated games of the next few years. The upcoming game looks to be a full-on evolution of the LEGO formula, throwing us into a massive new open galaxy in which we can play through all nine of the main Star Wars movies in any order.

It's been a while since we've seen or heard anything from the in-development title, but a brand-new trailer has given us our best look yet at the game's huge series of open-world planets, overhauled combat, and massive roster of characters. Everyone is here! From Jar Jar Binks to that little bloke who sits on Jabba's shoulder and cackles.

Unfortunately, it looks as if LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga won't be releasing this year. The trailer ends with a Spring 2022 release window, which means we're in for just a little bit more of a wait. This is clearly the most ambitious LEGO title in years, however, so I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

As the name implies, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will retell all nine core Star Wars films, from The Phantom Menace to The Rise Of Skywalker with the LEGO series' trademark humour and irreverence. The new game won't simply remaster levels from the original LEGO Star Wars and its sequel though. This is a completely new game with overhauled combat, multiple open world planets to explore, brand-new levels, and other exciting features.

Even better, The Skywalker Saga will feature around 800 unique characters... which is probably why the game is taking so long. Of those, an incredible 300 will be playable. These characters will of course be taken from the prequels, original films, and sequels, so there should be a little something for everyone, whether you're more team Darth Maul or Kylo Ren. Oh, and there'll be 23 planets to explore. Wow.

Spring 2022 can't come soon enough, to be honest.
