Marble Runs Are Now An Esport, And We're So Here For It

Get yourself hyped for the next big thing in esports? Is it an FPS? No. Is it a new MOBA? No. Is it a multiplayer focused esports based marble run video game? Well, actually, yes. It is.

Yes, a marble run esports game exists, and it's coming this year if an Indiegogo campaign is successful. Marble League 2021 is the brainchild of YouTube channel Jelle's Marble Runs, which highlights hugely intricate marble run challenges, courses, and competitions. And now, they're making a game.

The self-titled Marble Master Jelle has teamed up with Big Head Games, makers of mobile games like Doodle Pool, to create a next-level marble run game aiming to launch on PC, Mac and mobile. The developers are asking for £60,000 on crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to make the game a reality. And, as usual, putting in extra cash at higher backer tiers nets you exclusive rewards, and the chance to even have your virtual face the game's crowd.

To be fair, Marble League 2021 sounds pretty hefty, packing in a full story mode, 16 Marble League Events, multiplayer and even the opportunity to manage your own Marble League team. What can I say, it's a dream come true.

While the graphics don't seem to be anything to write home about, there's something really mesmerising about watching the way the marbles move. The trailer touts the importance of the marble physics they've added to the game, and I fully believe them. I've watched this trailer like three times now, and I'm not planning to stop anytime soon.

Not only does the game look really fun (y'know, in a sort of ridiculous way), it is also aiming to be an esport. Marbula One is a real marble racing championship, and the game will be looking to bring that audience over to enjoy some virtual marble fun, too. Competitive online marble play, anyone? Makes a neat change from shooters and MOBAs, that's for sure.

And there you have it. The year 2021 continues to throw up interesting surprises across the board, and while I never thought I'd be writing about a marble run esports game this year, Marble League 2021 is now firmly on my to-play list.
