When Marvel's Avengers arrives next year, it looks like Iron Man, Cap, Black Widow, Hulk, and Thor will be joined on their adventure by some young blood. Kamala Khan, AKA the marvelous Ms Marvel, has been announced as the sixth playable character in the game, and she looks absolutely fantastic.

First appearing in the comics back in 2013, Khan is a relatively new addition to the Marvel stable of heroes, but her cultural impact and popularity have been undeniable. It probably helps that her own solo series has mostly been one of the most vibrant, fun, and fresh-feeling books of the last decade.

As many fans first speculated when they watched the E3 2019 reveal, Khan was indeed the young lady who provided the voiceover at the beginning of the trailer (in which she gushes over meeting her heroes), and is present during the cataclysmic events of A-Day in San Francisco.

Just as in the comic books, it seems Khan is an Avengers superfan, and will serve as the "beating heart" of the story as she works to bring the Avengers back together five years after their ultimate defeat. Ms Marvel fans will no doubt be thrilled to learn that Khan is considered to be the main protagonist of Marvel's Avengers, and plays an "essential" role in reuniting the disbanded Avengers.

"Kamala is exposed to the mysterious Terrigen Mist, and finds herself developing extraordinary polymorphic powers, which she subsequently hides for years," a press release reads.

"Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, Kamala uncovers a shocking conspiracy and embarks on a quest to reassemble the heroes she believes in and to become the hero she was destined to be."

Shaun Escayg, Creative Director and Writer at Crystal Dynamic said, "an optimistic fan girl of the Avengers, Kamala Khan is the perfect character for the story we're telling in Marvel's Avengers. Telling our story of Kamala's coming-of-age brings a fresh, hopeful perspective to the gameplay experience and her unique abilities as Ms. Marvel make her a character every person can relate to and will want to play. Kamala Khan is one of the unique characters that makes our game stand apart from any Avengers story experienced before."

"I think Kamala is a perfect fit for a game like this, since she sees the Marvel world the same way we do as fans and players," added G. Willow Wilson, co-creator of Ms. Marvel. "Kamala allows us to imagine what we ourselves would do if we suddenly discovered we had superpowers and got to stand alongside our heroes in their time of greatest need."

If you've played through the recently-released Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, you'll probably already be familiar with Ms Marvel's impressive shape-changing abilities, and these powers are looking better than ever in Marvel's Avengers - even if the more realistic visuals make them seem a little freakier than usual.
