From beginning to Endgame.

With Marvel's Avengers inching ever closer to its May 15, 2020 release date, fans of Earth's Mightiest Heroes might well be wondering exactly how long it'll take them to get through Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics entirely original superhero adventure. Games are pretty pricey these days, after all, and fans no doubt just want to know they're getting their money's worth.

The good news is that it sounds like the single-player campaign in Marvel's Avengers will be about as a long as you'd expect any single-player AAA adventure game's campaign to be - roughly 30 hours.

That's according to Crystal Dynamics' Senior Brand Director Rich Brigg, who revealed the magic number in an interview with Comicbook.com, noting that it's only 30 hours "if you want to see everything there is." It'll apparently be a lot shorter if you're only willing to zip through the core story - about 20 hours shorter, in fact.

"I think it'll depend on exactly how deep you want to go into it," Briggs explained. "So if you think about previous Crystal games, you know that if you want to be playing your way through the core story, it's going to be in that area, 10 to 12 hours."

That's a fairly large gap, but Briggs compared the structure of Marvel's Avengers to previous Crystal games like 2013's Tomb Raider, in that there are plenty of side missions to complete and secrets to find that will inevitably nudge the overall playtime closer to the 30 hour mark. To be fair, who forks out £50 for a game these days just to blast through it as quickly as possible?

It's important to note that Briggs stressed these numbers are just a rough estimate, but it does give us some indication of how much time we'll be spending with the Avengers over the course of a fairly dark sounding story in which it's left to Kamala Khan - AKA Miss Marvel - to reunite the team in the wake of a terrible tragedy.

Obviously, there's also going to be a lot more to Marvel's Avengers than the initial campaign. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have already talked about their plans to support the game with plenty of post-launch content, multiplayer, future heroes, and even an extended narrative.

How all of this ultimately takes form remains to be seen, but it seems clear that Square Enix wants Marvel's Avengers to be a game you stick with for a long while. Let's just hope it's good enough for us to want to.
