Grandad Plays Through Mass Effect Trilogy, Calls It "Most Fun" He's Had In Decades

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition reinvigorated the classic sci-fi shooters for veteran Shepards and fresh-faced space cadets alike, and it turns out that the remasters allowed a very unconventional gamer to play the entire trilogy through.

StormRaider2000 on Reddit published a post on the popular RPG's subreddit about Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, more specifically the new narrative mode for the third game in the series. This isn't the only change to the originals - though the ones you'll likely notice the most are the visual upgrades. "Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form," explained creative director Casey Hudson last year. In that regard, the overhauled versions of the games have gotten "super-sharp resolutions, faster frame rates, and beautiful visual enhancements."

On top of that, there are a number of alterations to the gameplay that should ensure that a jaunt across the Milky Way is accessible to every kind of player. All difficulty levels are available from the get-go without requiring previous playthroughs to unlock them, HUD updates bring it in line with more modern shooters, and all weapons can be used by any class without any penalties to accuracy, to name but a few. For Mass Effect 3, the narrative mode changes how enemies react to Shepard as well as diminishing the amount of damage they do to the protagonist.

These changes to the available difficulty levels of the trilogy have been heaven sent for StormRaider2000. They visit their grandad for a few weeks every year and he loves to watch them play video games so he can follow their exciting stories. They purchased the Legendary Edition and told their grandad that he'd be the one in the director's chair this time. He was "thrilled," and leapt into the revamped version of the RPG with vigor.

"It ended up being a paragon run (for the most part) and he had the time of his life. He was also a pimp Shepard who had [a] couple different romance partners lmao," said StormRaider2000. "Having the super easy modes especially the narrative in ME3 (although also near impossible to die on casual in the first 2 games) was so damn great. Although he did like seeing the combat and all the different battles, he likes the story/galaxy and being able to make all the choices 1000x more."

"For how happy he was the whole time I will always love BioWare 100x more than I already did," continued the Redditor, adding that "he hasn't been able to stop talking about [Mass Effect] to other people, was the most fun he had in 30 years (his words)." A story like this warms the cockles of your heart, doesn't it? I'd even say that Saren would find it tough not to crack a smile on that wiry face of his.
