Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Is Delayed Due To One Game's Quality

Those rumoured Mass Effect remasters were meant to arrive in October, but there's one problem that has apparently led to the Legendary Edition now launching in 2021.

Jeff Grubb, a reporter for VentureBeat, originally revealed the existence of the remasters earlier this year and has been dropping hints and tidbits about the collection ever since. Honestly, the guy could only know more about Mass Effect if his surname was Moreau. Anyway. His latest update, according to sources who are close to the project, is the bringer of bad news. The remasters are no longer set for an autumnal announcement and release, and will be arriving at some point next year.

Grubb asserts that the pandemic is one of the reasons why this has come to pass. The impact on established working practices and on the economies of countries around the world has led to complications and rescheduling for other games. So, in some way, this isn't a mega surprise. However, there is one problem that is termed the "primary factor" in the remasters' delay.

Mass Effect /
BioWare

It's the quality of Mass Effect, which is the first game in the trilogy. Now, before you get up in arms about that fact, bear with me for a moment. EA and BioWare have apparently pulled out all the stops to upgrade these games to the current expectations of third-person shooters today. Ergo, at present, the remasters of Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, with all of their visual and technical improvements, are looking sharp.

That isn't the case for Mass Effect, and as of right now, it "does not live up to the quality of the rest of the package." Rather than release a slightly lopsided collection of remasters, EA is stalling the Legendary Edition so that BioWare has the opportunity to level up the experience of playing the original game. This is a rational choice, and waiting a little longer to enjoy the games as they were intended to be will be appreciated by veteran and new players alike.

Mass Effect 3 /
BioWare

Grubb also added that all of the DLC for all of the three games will be included in the new collection. That's a lotta content. Plus, it will be very interesting to see how a new group of players react to Mass Effect 3: Citadel, which was described to be a sentimental and superb farewell to Mass Effect. But, one thing that will not be on its way to the Legendary Edition is the multiplayer. With Apex Legends churning out the cash for EA, there isn't much reason to pour resources into what would become a live-service multiplayer on top of the three single-player outings.

Well, whenever we do get our mitts on Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, it will be worth the wait.
