Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, the remastered collection of the original trilogy of space opera shooters, is apparently arriving in early March.

It's certainly in the running for the title of "worst kept secret in the video game industry," as the remasters were rumoured throughout almost all of 2020. Leaks whispered that the collection would launch in October 2020, however, the team over at BioWare were struggling to elevate Mass Effect's visual quality with those of its successors. Rather than rush what they had, BioWare allegedly decided to delay the release to allow the developers time to hone and refine the bundle as a whole, coherent experience. There's no need to beat about the bush, but other studios might want to take a leaf out of that book.

Really though, the hype was uncontainable for a set of Mass Effect remasters. The latest entry to the series, Mass Effect: Andromeda, offered some of the best combat in a galaxy far, far away from the Milky Way, but its story fell flat. The determinant and dramatic narrative is a cornerstone of the sci-fi shooter series, and as a result, a lot of players felt a little short-changed by the utterly expansive yet ultimately shallow experience. With the announcement that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is on its way to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 this year, it's like new life has been breathed into the beloved games.

And, we might not be waiting too long for the bundle of joy and jellyfish movie stars inspired by Dirty Harry. Spotted by Eurogamer, an online retailer based in Singapore has listed the games for a launch date of March 12th. Now, oftentimes retailers will use a provisional date as a placeholder for a game, which lets customers pre-order a product although this might not be the actual launch date. Yet, Eurogamer has thrown its lot in with this source, in spite of Electronic Arts and BioWare's silence on the matter. Though Mass Effect: Legendary Edition missed the opportunity to debut on N7 Day in 2020, clearly someone has had the bright idea to schedule the release of the remasters somewhat close to my birthday. That is absolutely the reason that they chose March 12th. Yes.

We'll keep you in the loop if we hear more about this leaked launch date. After all, we're awestruck at the prospect of "super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements'' for the most entertaining third-person shooters around. Moreover, BioWare is beavering away on Mass Effect 5, which has welcomed a "veteran team" back to the driver's seat.
