‘Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’ Modder Has Restored Controversial Cut Content

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition changes a lot about the original trilogy, from accessibility options to visual upgrades to the addition of DLC content. Yet, it looks like a proportion of players missed those lingering shots of a character's bottom and a modder has added them back into the game.

"It's been a long-awaited day for all of us on the team, but you-our community-have been asking for this for years," said BioWare ahead of the release of the remasters in May. "Just like in 2007, thousands of people are getting ready to don the N7 armor for the very first time-but this time, thousands more are dusting off their old gear for the adventure ahead." Mass Effect: Legendary Edition revamps the three games to line them up with the capabilities and expectations of modern third-person shooters, consisting of numerous gameplay changes, a whole lot of visual ameliorations, and rectifies some of the mistakes of the past.

While in dialogue with Miranda, one of the companions in Mass Effect 2, the camera would hover over her bottom which doesn't serve the gravitas of these conversations and portrays the character as someone to be ogled. It's not an amazing look for BioWare, then and in 2021, sothe studio put the work in to change these scenes.

"Specifically around the animations, we couldn't really change a lot of those, but there were times where you could change the camera to not focus on one of those animations. So a male Shepherd animation would have him sitting with his legs quite wide open with a low camera where, if you were wearing a skirt, it would be a bit unflattering," said character and environment director Kevin Meek. "So we can't necessarily change that animation, but you can raise that camera up slightly to reduce the problem."

This choice split the community, though I'm sure that statement doesn't surprise you. Now, to the wronged players who have missed Miranda's bottom taking over half of their screen: rejoice. Modder Lunk has slid the camera position back down so it's showing off Miranda's... assets once more. Obviously, there are those who are very happy that this cut content has been brought back, and I don't think I need to explain to you why that is. However, there has been a pushback from players who were happy that the original scenes had been altered to be respectful of Miranda.

"I can't believe people are so horny they go out of their way to get ass shots in a video game. Shows where your priorities lie with the series," said alitafelicia on Reddit. When other Redditors explained that the new camera angles mean the characters aren't actually in focus during the conversation, I wondered why we couldn't have a mod that fixed that issue instead. No matter what, there will always be a raunchy mod or five for video games of all genres - take a look at Resident Evil Village, for example. Still, it is iffy to bring back these angles when everyone involved in the game believes that they should have been left in the past.
