Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster Release Date Teased By Industry Insider

We've heard numerous reports that EA is currently developing a remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy, and a trusted industry insider has just dropped a massive hint that the collection could be released as soon as October this year.

EA announced during its last financial report that it's aiming to release no less than 14 new games during the next fiscal year, which runs until the end of March 2021. While the publisher didn't talk specifics, we do know that four of them will be sports games. That of course means a new Madden, FIFA, and NHL - as well as a fourth that I'm unsure about.

There'll also be a handful of mobile games, a few indie titles, a couple of new IPs and something that the publisher referred to as "an additional EA HD title". VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb was the first to confirm that this additional HD title will in fact be a remaster of the first three games in BioWare's classic sci-fi RPG series.

Now, Grubb is suggesting that EA will both announce and release the Mass Effect trilogy HD remaster in October. The reporter has been constantly updating and sharing a list of upcoming announcements from major publishers over the past few months, with almost all of them proving to be accurate. In his latest post, he reveals that the "Remasster" is now scheduled for October:

When asked whether the "Remasster" would be an announcement or a surprise release, Grubb hinted that it could be both, through the time-honoured medium of GIF.

A return to the first three Mass Effect games is certainly something that I think all fans of the series would welcome. As someone who has - to my shame - never actually played a Mass Effect game, I'd love a chance to dive in and see what all the fuss was about. The series has been on ice since 2017's disastrous Andromeda, and with the reports that developer BioWare has already started work on a new entry, a remastered collection would be a great way of rekindling the collective love for the franchise.

Beyond that, EA has said a few times over the past year or so that it plans to release more remasters and remakes of "fan-favourite" franchises. Anytime you mention the possibility of a Mass Effect remaster to a genuine fan of the series, they get so excited they pee their pants. Probably. I'd say that's enough to make a Mass Effect trilogy remaster qualify as fan-favourite.
