Metal Gear Fans Are Campaigning For A "Kojima Cut" Of 'Metal Gear Solid 5'

But it's pretty unlikely.

I don't know about you, but to me it feels like everyone and anyone has been talking about director's cuts - perhaps because of the success earlier this year of the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Of course, these edits and reworks have existed for a long time - it's not like the DC movie was the first to be recut to better realise its director's vision - but since we saw the vast improvements the Snyder Cut made, audiences are asking what else could be bettered by a rework. And apparently, Metal Gear Solid fans want Hideo Kojima to have another go at Metal Gear Solid V.

Kojima sort of started this conversation with his regular film thoughts he posts on Twitter. Sometimes these opinions are about new projects or going back to watch works he's missed - and after watching Zack Snyder's Justice League for the first time on July 5, he praised the 4:3 aspect ratio, the pacing, the colour correction and more. In short, it was a success in his eyes - and as GamesRadar+ noticed, this spurred fans into believing a 'Kojima Cut' of Metal Gear Solid V should be made.

Kojima is already working on a director's cut, but it's for his 2019 game, Death Stranding...

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain had its own development issues - a little like the original Justice League. The story of the game was not polished to the satisfaction of many Kojima fans as the director was steadily becoming separated from Konami in 2015, the year of the game's release. Though it's not officially known what truly happened behind the scenes, regarding Kojima's departure - rumours suggest it was surrounding internal power struggles - Konami's official statement simply said that it would be parting ways with Kojima as part of a restructuring process.

As a result, many Metal Gear fans feel like Metal Gear Solid V is unfinished and never reached its full potential, despite its critical acclaim. A 'Definitive Experience' re-release came out in 2016, but this was the complete package including the otherwise-standalone Ground Zeroes prologue, rather than what we consider a director's cut of a project. Fans, therefore, have responded to the game director's Snyder Cut tweet with calls for him to revisit and finish his vision.
