Wondering exactly where Solid Snake has gotten to and when we might finally see him again? You're not the only one. The good news is that a recent rumour suggests Konami is planning to release a new Metal Gear Solid collection on PlayStation 5.

The original Metal Gear Solid HD Collection was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011, bringing a handful of classic games in the franchise to (then) modern consoles, upscaled for high-definition goodness. The collection contained the original 1987 Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

A few years after that, Konami released another collection that included Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots, and a download code for Metal Gear Solid. In short, Konami is no stranger to repackaging older Metal Gear games and re-releasing them for modern consoles. This latest rumour suggests the PlayStation 5 will be getting a similar collection, but take this one with a massive grain of salt.

This particular rumuor originated on 4chan from an anonymous source, which is rarely an encouraging sign. With that said, anonymous 4chan leakers have shared accurate info in the past, and Konami has a history of releasing compilations of classic titles, so let's see what they have to say.

The "leaker" suggests that this new Metal Gear Solid collection will be released for PlayStation 5 in September, and feature Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. It sounds like these are upscaled ports rather than remakes or remasters, to be clear. They also claim that Metal Gear Solid 4 will see a separate release on the console at a later date, but that it won't take advantage of any of the PlayStation 5's unique features.

One of the main reasons fans are wary of this report (aside from the fact it originated on 4chan), is that Twin Snakes gets a mention. For those unaware, Twin Snakes was the GameCube remake of the original Metal Gear Solid. It's a fantastic title, but has never been released outside of Nintendo's console. It would be fantastic to see this underrated remake on PlayStation 5 after all these years, but you have to think if Konami had any interest in re-releasing it, it would have done so years ago.

Far more likely are the reports that Bluepoint Games, who remade Demon's Souls for PlayStation 5, is working on a remake of Metal Gear Solid. Snake's return is definitely a matter of "when", and not "if" at this point - we just need to keep our ears to the ground.
