'Metal Gear Solid' Could Be Coming Back, Konami Outsourcing Development

Good news, everyone! After years with nothing but one crappy spinoff to go on, the Metal Gear Solid franchise is making its long-awaited comeback. The best part? Publisher Konami plans to outsource the series for other developers to use.
This is according to a wide-ranging new report from VGC, which claims that Konami has effectively had a massive change of heart and is dishing out its biggest properties to studios who actually want to do something with them. The original report claimed that Konami is already working with a "very famous gaming publisher" on a new Silent Hill, which is set to be announced this summer. It's since been updated to include the assertion that Konami will be giving the same treatment to both Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania.

It should be noted that any new entries in these series are at still years away for now, but this is an exciting step in the right direction. The last Metal Gear title was 2018's turgid Metal Gear Survive, a release that went down about as well as a wet fart in a lift. VGC claims that the disastrous reaction to this spinoff played a key role in Konami bosses coming round to the idea letting external teams work on the IP. I guess it was good for something then.
These new reports make no mention of the long-rumoured PlayStation 5 remake of the original Metal Gear Solid, which is believed to be in development under Demon's Souls remake studio Bluepoint. Late last year speculation was rife that the developer was working on a second PS5 remake alongside Demon's Souls, and all signs - as well as multiple industry insiders - seemed to point to Solid Snake's return.
If Konami really is outsourcing its IP to other publishers and developers, then the prospect of a PlayStation 5 Metal Gear Solid remake is arguably more likely than ever before. Between these reports, the idea of a Metal Gear Solid 6, and a movie starring Oscar Isaac, Metal Gear fans might finally know something other than pain and disappointment.
