'Metal Gear Solid' Snake Actor Teases Return For PlayStation 5 Remake

Hayter's gonna hate.

Rumours of a Metal Gear Solid remake for PlayStation 5 have really started to intensify in recent weeks. Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the recent Demon's Souls remake and the excellent PS4 remake of Shadow Of The Colossus is said to already be working on bringing back Hideo Kojima's PlayStation classic, although nothing has been confirmed just yet.

In an exciting turn of events, David Hayter, the iconic actor who lent his voice to Snake for most of the Metal Gear franchise, has now caught wind of these rumours and addressed them. While Hayter has said he doesn't know whether or not the rumours are true, he urged his fans to let Bluepoint know how much everyone wants to see him take on the role once more.

"I'm always down to return to Shadow Moses," he finished.

While Hayter's comments could be taken as something of a blow against the rumoured remake, it could simply be that Bluepoint has yet to cast and record voice lines for the alleged game. There's also a chance Hayter has already done it, and that he's messing with fans to help keep the surprise alive. Unlikely, yes, but stranger things have happened.

Despite being infamously replaced in the role by Keifer Sutherland in 2015's Metal Gear Solid V, Hayter has remained loyal to the role and the fans over the years, earning him a heartening level of devotion and respect. While Sutherland obviously did a fine job during his turn as Snake, I'm not sure there's a single fan out there who would argue that Hayter should ever have been taken out of the role.

With any luck the Metal Gear Solid remake turns out to be the real deal, giving Hayter the chance to return to the part that made him such a hit with gamers around the world. Between this and the recent tease from The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley that Konami and Sony have teamed up to work on something, I'm really starting to feel like something is afoot. Watch this space.
