‘Minecraft’ Has Got ‘Minions’ DLC And Oh God, My Eyes

Is nothing sacred?

In a collaboration between Mojang and Illumination, Minecraft's Minions DLC brings the yellow blobs into the massively popular game, showing that nowhere is safe from their eerie eye(s).

Despicable Me. That's an entertaining film. I enjoyed it. I think it was on the telly over Christmas and my dad definitely fell asleep during it. Steve Carell is very good as the central character and it's a sweet story. Yet, if I had known that those creatures would have permeated popular culture, spawning a subset of memes only used by parents on Facebook, legitimately being used as a descriptor in heated political debates in South America and getting their own feature-length film on their escapades, I would have done anything in my power to prevent Despicable Me from ever succeeding. Sorry, Steve.

Here's the trailer for the Minions DLC in Minecraft - if you've the stomach for these sorts of things.

I am also aware that I am a 25-year-old woman and therefore I am not exactly the target audience of Minions. In fact, the DLC in Minecraft is part of the promotions for Minions: The Rise of Gru, which arrives in cinemas on July 1st, 2022. Well, they say one can never be too prepared, and that certainly applies to the slow and terrifying assimilation of all culture through those googly goggles that Kevin, Stuart, and Bob (yes! they have names!) view their dominion through.

"Do YOU have what it takes to become a super-villain? You just might!" announced the developer. After everything that 2021 has thrown at us thus far, I think the allure of super-villainy isn't quite as uncommon as it used to be. "Grab your Minions Adventure Map, and live out your evil dreams as you take on the Vicious 6 in an exciting Adventure Mode. Explore familiar places and cause maximum mischief with Illumination's Gru and the Minions in Minecraft." And, I've got to say it. Making the Minions blocky just makes them so much worse. These monsters will be haunting my nightmares. Imagine mining, happy as Larry, and you turn and one of those is breathing down your neck. Awful.
