Vampires, Minecraft, and Keanu Reeves - what do they have in common? They're all immortal obviously. In a recent wrap up of YouTube's numbers, the video-sharing website has announced that 2020 was YouTube's biggest-ever year for gaming content and that Minecraft achieved the highest views.

While everyone was stuck inside during 2020, we all watched a lot of YouTube gaming content - an incredible amount it turns out. 100 billion hours, in fact, which is 114,155 years. That's too much time for us to even imagine without getting a headache so we're not going to try.

This time is spread over 40 million active gaming channels, 80,000 of which hit 100,000 subscribers this year, 1,000 hit 5 million, and 350 reached an almighty 10 million subs. That's a lot of people, so how about the games people wanted to watch? Well as we said, Minecraft is eternal - the game from Mojang just won't die.

Minecraft content amassed 201 billion views on YouTube in 2020, which is over double the next highest Roblox with 75 billion. In third was Garena Free Fire with 72 billion, fourth was GTA V with 70 billion, and in a respectable fifth came Fortnite.

If you're wondering where a game like Among Us is, it's probably not up there as it only entered the running in Q3 of this year, so it had only half the time of these other massive titles to rack up the numbers. If it continues its current phenomenal success, the InnerSloth game might make it onto the list next year - who knows!

The blog post had some special shout outs to content and content creators that stood out this year, like Valkyrae growing to be one of the biggest female gaming streamers in the world and Jackspecticeye raising an incredible $660,000 in just 12 hours for Covid-19 relief. It was a big year for YouTube, no doubt about it, we just hope that we all get to continue watching gaming content in 2021 when we're not avoiding a deadly virus - that would make a nice change right?
