A recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare datamine has potentially uncovered the existence of no less than 38 new multiplayer maps, including the long-awaited return of fan-favourite arenas from the original Modern Warfare trilogy, such as Rust and Shipment.
The current offering of maps in Infinity Ward's reboot have split opinion among Call of Duty veterans, with some complaining that a good chunk of the new additions, with their wide open spaces and myriad places to tuck oneself away, reward camping over more offensive strategies.
As a self-confessed Call of Duty noob/loser/whatever you want to call it, it doesn't really make a difference to me where I play. I'll still rush towards an objective without thinking and get shot in the head by a 15-year-old with a lot more skill and patience than me.
This new report comes from a dataminer on Reddit who goes by the name Senescallo. Senescallo shared a full list of the files they'd uncovered, with images of some of the maps to back up their claims.

The full list of datamined maps is as follows:
Cage, Cargo, Hook, Aniyah Tac, Crash, Dam, Krovnik, Farmland, Gulag, Hospital, Layover, Lowline, Lumber, Malyshev, Milbase, Oasis, Port, Prison, Ravine, Shipment (Day and Night), Slums, Stadium, Sub Base, Super, Urzikstan, Torez, Transit, TV Station, Faridah, Rust, Takedown, Borderline, Smetna Farms, Gun Course, and Marksman Range.
While the prospect of returning to iconic maps like Shipment and Crash is undeniably incredibly exciting, it's worth noting that just because references to the maps were found in the code, that doesn't mean for sure that they'll be coming to the game.
A lot of the time, developers simply leave unfinished prototypes or designs in the source code, so there's a chance that at least a few of these 38 maps are an example of such practice.

With that said, this isn't the first time we've heard rumblings of classic maps making a return in Modern Warfare. Back in September, dataminers also claimed to have found Rust hiding in the files for the game's PC beta. Well-known CoD leaker TheGamingRevo shared an image on Twitter that appeared to give us a look at the fan-favourite map in the reboot, which was later verified by Charlieintel.
A leak last week from the same source also pointed to an upcoming free map pack for the game, which includes a string of classic maps including Rust, Shipment and Crash. That certainly lines up nicely with this most recent discovery.
We'll have to wait for official word from Activision of course, but given that the publisher intends to release all post-game maps across all consoles for free, I think I can say with some confidence that we're about to see a huge spike in Rust-related falling outs. I can't wait.
