'Mortal Kombat 11' Datamine Uncovers Rambo And Two Other DLC Characters

Mortal Kombat 11 isn't finished dishing out surprise DLC guest characters just yet. Dataminers rummaging through the files of the fighter's recent Halloween update have uncovered evidence of three new characters - including everybody's favourite grizzled war veteran John Rambo.

As discovered by thetiny over on Twitter, there are various references to "CHAR_RAM" in the game files. While this doesn't outright confirm Rambo himself, it's been widely agreed by fans and other dataminers that the action movie icon would make sense thematically. It's also fairly unlikely that "RAM" is indictive of any other guest characters... unless the German metal band Ramstein is about to make a surprise appearance in Mortal Kombat 11.

Rambo, ably portrayed by Sylvester Stallone for the last 38 years, would certainly make a pretty great addition to NetherRealm's gory beat-em-up. Mortal Kombat 11 already includes other 80s cinema titans Robocop and Terminator, so our boy Rambo would fit right in. Not that Rambo ever worries about whether or not he fits in anywhere.

I don't know about you, but I'd also love to see Rambo throw down with other guest characters like Joker and Spawn - those are two matches I never thought I'd see.

The other two leaked DLC characters appear to be Rain - who was previously teased by game director Ed Boon - and Mileena. A staple of the franchise since Mortal Kombat II in 1993, Mileena has easily been one of the most-requested characters for Mortal Kombat 11. So much so, in fact, that Boon has actually made an effort to go out and troll the fans on Twitter over her continued absence from the latest instalment. Clearly he's only been doing that to make her eventual inclusion that much more of a surprise.

It's not clear when these DLC characters could arrive - if they ever do. It's always important to remember that references dug up from game files aren't necessarily indictive of what you'll get in the final game.

These references could simply be leftover code from ideas that had to be abandoned for one reason or another. Ash from the Evil Dead is a prime example of this, as dataminers uncovered evidence of the horror icon in Mortal Kombat 11 months back... only for him to never actually show up in the game. For now it's best to keep your expectations in check until NetherRealm and Warner Bros. announces something official.
