If you've beaten Nioh 2, you may already be looking around for a new game to fill that big soulslike hole that it's left behind. And if you are, you might want to keep your eye on the newly announced Mortal Shell that was revealed yesterday by developers, Cold Symmetry.

You can check out the announcement trailer below (go here for a direct link). We think you'll agree that the quasi-medieval undertone, paired with the desolate yet disturbing locations give this game a serious Dark Souls vibe. Throw in a few horrific - and in some cases, oversized - enemies, and the whole thing looks incredibly promising.

The official website describes Mortal Shell as "a deep action-RPG that tests your sanity" with combat that is "strategic, deliberate, and unforgiving". Sounds great, right? The video also shows that you'll be able to dodge and parry and it looks like you'll have some nifty tricks at your disposal too. You can see the main character summoning deadly spikes out of the ground and conjuring an inferno to take out or weaken opponents.

As reported by GamesRadar, you'll play as a humanoid vessel who is tasked with retrieving "sacred glands". And in order to take down some of the tougher opponents, you'll need to possess the "shells" of warriors from the past so you can gain their skills and abilities to aid you. You'll be able to discover and upgrade weapons and study arcane powers too. According to the site, "the stronger your connection to each Mortal Shell grows, the better you can harness their innate talents."

Mortal Shell will be Cold Symmetry's first game but the studio itself is made up of industry veterans. Co-founders Vitaly Bulgarov and Anton Gonzalez come from Blizzard and Sucker Punch, respectively and, according to GamesRadar, the developers have said that the game is indeed "built upon the ruthless traditions of the Soulslike genre".

Mortal Shell is set for release in "Q3 2020" (so anytime between July and the end of September) and will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
