This survey asking gamers up and down the United Kingdom has turned over some surprising results, and from its data, we can conclusively tell you what is the most popular game in the country.

Patrol Base, an airsoft store, used search demand to determine what video games people are looking for across 30 major cities. From Belfast to Wolverhampton, it's immediately clear that gamers in the UK opt for a whole range of titles, with no one genre coming out on top. In Brighton, The Legend Of Zelda gets a lot of love, whereas Londoners like to play StarCraft, God Of War, and Battlefield. Again, gamers in Cardiff concur that God Of War is an extremely moreish game, soaking up hours and hours zipping about the Nine Realms. God of War 2 snagged the silver medal in our list of the best games on the PlayStation 2, so check out the video below for some serious nostalgia.

On the other hand, those in Bristol much prefer games that take a more purposeful pace to the story, like The Witcher and Tomb Raider. The Midlands also shows significant differences between the cities, with DOTA 2 in Nottingham, The Last Of Us in Derby, Grand Theft Auto in Birmingham and Wolverhampton, and BioShock in Sheffield. Grand Theft Auto 6 has been in development for about twelve months now, yet Rockstar Games is keeping mum on the details of the upcoming entry to the open-world series. However, we've collected all of the leaks and rumours right here to ensure you're up to speed. Belfast sees The Last Of Us and Red Dead Redemption snag spots in its top five titles, along with FIFA.

As for Scottish gamers, the cities of Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh were profiled. Aberdeen enjoys a good session of swinging steel and silver swords in The Witcher, Glasgow kindly dispatches Splicers on the regular in BioShock, and Edinburgh will be found in the most dangerous recesses of outer space in the free-to-play StarCraft. It's wild that heavy hitters like Animal Crossing, The Sims, Civilization, Rainbow Six Siege, and Assassin's Creed aren't here. To each their own, of course.

Finally, we are able to reveal that the most popular game in the UK is... BioShock, developed by 2K Boston and released in 2007. I am certain that BioShock: The Collection, which bundles together remasters of the trilogy in one product, has helped it surge in interest since 2016. According to Patrol Base, BioShock gets 32,000 monthly searches across the UK, with BioShock: Infinite snagging another 21,000 monthly searches to boot.
