Naughty Dog Could Be Working On Skyrim-Style Fantasy Game Next

What's next for Naughty Dog? The Last Of Us Part II released to massive success last year, and we know that at least some of the studio are currently working on that game's multiplayer spinoff. But what about after that? Naughty Dog is a developer that deals primarily in single-player experiences, after all. Will the acclaimed studio go back to an established franchise like Uncharted or The Last Of Us, or come up with something entirely new?

We don't know for sure which route Naughty Dog will take just yet. However, recently surfaced concept art from Naughty Dog senior artist Hyoung Nam suggests that the developer is at least toying with the idea of a fantasy adventure game. I don't know about you, but the very idea of Naughty Dog tackling the fantasy genre is enough to get me to sign up... although the concept art itself does a pretty great job of increasing my excitement.

As you can see below, the new art taken from Nam's ArtStation profile shows a young woman with a bloody sword rest on the head of a Dragon she presumably murdered. What's not to love about that? Stick that on the front cover of a PlayStation 5 box and you've got yourself a sale, frankly. Two other pieces show a Shaman-like woman with a skull staff and Ram's skull on her head, and a woman in robes with bright green eyes.

The art is accompanied by a caption that reads: "Inspire from new game. You know what I'm talking about...", with a winky face at the end. The three pieces are called "The Women Of North". Nam definitely seems to be hinting that this fantasy setting is something Naughty Dog is currently considering. Of course concept art is hardly confirmation that this is the route the studio will take. For all we know this is just one of many, many concepts that's currently being tossed around. I do kind of hope this is the one the team lands on though.

For now we have The Last Of Us Part II multiplayer spinoff to look forward to. Originally intended as a bonus mode for the 2020 game, it was subsequently held back when it became clear it had more than enough potential to release as its own thing. Still no word on when exactly this multiplayer title will launch, but recent promotions at Naughty Dog imply work on it has stepped up a notch.
