It's what I've always said about zombies. If you can't beat them, join them. In Army Of The Dead, a military convoy containing a zombie from Area 51 is on its way to another facility when a car crash allows the cargo to escape. The monster then kills several of the soldiers while chomping on a few others, and the survivors start to shamble towards Las Vegas. The infection spreads out of control and two strains of the virus become apparent - one that turns victims into slavering husks driven by hunger and one that lets humans retain some of their intelligence and organise into a new species. These so-called Alpha zombies have holed up in a casino, but it's not just any casino. One that has a $200 million jackpot stored in its vault, and mercenary Scott Ward (played by Dave Bautista) is tasked with its retrieval. He hires a motley crew of specialists for the job, including his former compadres, a safecracker, a sharpshooter, a helicopter pilot and a smuggler.

Can they pull off a heist unlike any other? Now, that would be telling. Check out the brutally bombastic spectacle of Army Of The Dead in its trailer below.

According to recent data released by Netflix and reported by Deadline, Army Of The Dead has been streamed 72 million times and ruled the roost in more than 70 countries as the number one movie or TV show on the platform. What's more is that the movie is in the top ten most streamed Netflix originals ever, and it's closing in on runaway successes like Project Power and Enola Holmes. Here's the list in full:

  1. Extraction - 99 million
  2. Bird Box - 89 million
  3. Spenser Confidential - 85 million
  4. 6 Underground - 83 million
  5. Murder Mystery - 83 million
  6. The Old Guard - 78 million
  7. Enola Holmes - 76 million
  8. Project Power - 75 million
  9. (tied) The Midnight Sky and Army of the Dead - 72 million

Expectedly, the company is keen to capitalise on its momentum and has greenlit two prequels. The first is Army of Thieves, following the safecracker Ludwig Dieter. Matthias Schweighöfer, who plays the character, is directing and the cast comprises Nathalie Emmanuel, Guz Khan, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Jonathan Cohen, Noemie Nakai and Peter Simonischek. The second is Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and it's an anime show which will explore Scott's origins as a soldier as well as the early days of the outbreak in Las Vegas. Lots more to sink our teeth into, then.
