Netflix has just dropped the first trailer for The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf, following a young Vesemir tracking a uniquely terrifying creature and confronting his harrowing past.
From Studio Mir, which has also worked on The Legend of Korra and Dota: Dragon's Blood, the movie is looking exceedingly good. And I don't just mean Vesemir, though his never-before-seen look is certainly having an effect on fans. "I feel like I just found my grandpa's old war photos. I can't deal with grumpy curmudgeonly Vesemir being hot and cool," said a commenter on YouTube. The live-action adaptation has influenced its visuals, too, with young Vesemir showing spider-like veins surrounding his black eyes when he imbibes a potion to boost his powers in battle. Theo James is the voice of the Witcher, and though he's as sarcastic as he ever is in this early chapter of his long life, it's clear that he's purely motivated by the bushels and bushels of coin this profession offers him.

The movie arrives on August 23rd, which is a lot earlier than the second season of the live-action adaptation, so this should tick us over til Cavill and company return to the small screen. Beau DeMayo, who penned the third episode of The Witcher, wrote the script to the movie and explained how an animated adventure is actually most suited to expressing the richness of the original material in its entirety.
"There is not necessarily always parity between those two mediums," DeMayo told Comicbook.com. "There are things that you can animate in an animated form that will look so amazing, so badass, that if you did it in live-action, it's just going to look goofy or it's just going to register as a little false to the human eye... I think, with the live-action but also with the anime, [it] was just so important that it not just be an action-fest, that there be a story there. That there is emotion there that's really sincere. A lot of people underrate animation, especially anime sometimes, for being able to deliver emotion, really poignant emotion."
The Nightmare of the Wolf's cast is filled out with Lara Pulver as Tetra, Graham McTavish as Deglan and Mary McDonnell as Lady Zerbst. One more reminder before you're off - the movie will arrive on August 23rd on Netflix.
