New Mass Effect Games Are Coming, Confirms BioWare

New Mass Effect Games Are Coming, Confirms BioWare

Andromeda wasn't the end. Thank God.

It's not secret that Mass Effect: Andromeda left a particularly disgusting taste in the mouths of fans everywhere, like a bag of two-day-old Chinese that you found in the fridge and unwisely decided to devour. It was such a mess, in fact, that a lot of supporters of BioWare's sexy space RPG were worried they'd never see a new entry rear its head.

The whole sorry affair extra concerning when you consider that BioWare is owned by EA, and Mass Effect Andromeda didn't sell very well at all - so why would the publisher ever green-light work on a new one when it can have BioWare develop something more potentially profitable?

Of course, you could argue that BioWare tried it EA's way with Anthem, and we all know how well that went. Maybe, just maybe, it's time the publisher let the developer do what it does best, and focus on making an incredible single-player RPG in the way we know it can.

The good news is that BioWare executive producer Mike Darrah seems to think that the franchise is far from over. He recently shared his thoughts with Polygon, revealing there's still plenty to see in the Mass Effect universe.

"We're definitely not done with Mass Effect," he explained. "There's a lot of stories to be told. We could pull on the threads we put down with Andromeda; we could pull on threads from Mass Effect 3. There's a lot of interesting space to be explored."

BioWare general manager Casey Hudson also chimed in with his thoughts, revealing that he thinks the Mass Effect franchise is still "very much alive."

"I'm thinking all the time about things that I think will be great. It's just a matter of getting back to it as soon as we can," he said.

While it's nice to hear that BioWare still has faith in the franchise, we're realistically a long, long way away from a new Mass Effect. The studio continues to toil away improving Anthem (for now) and is also currently developing a brand new entry in the Dragon Age franchise.

Still, we can at least take comfort in the fact that Mass Effect isn't gone for good, and that we'll be able to embark on more exciting, sexy space adventures somewhere down the line. Whatever shape a sequel takes, it can't be worse than Mass Effect: Andromeda... can it?
