It’s an Aard act to follow.

A new trailer for Netflix'sThe Witcher reveals never-before-seen monsters, and this may be our first look at the second season of the show.

After an amazing reception to the adaptation which toppled The Mandalorian to become the most in-demand TV series in the world, a second season was a given. If showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich had her way, we'd follow Geralt and the gang for seven seasons, all in all, but let's hold our teleporting horses for now. When the coronavirus spread to Europe in early spring, filming on the second season had to be postponed for the safety of the cast and crew.

Filming resumed in June, although the second season was originally intended to premiere in 2021. Plans might have slid away from this window, but we've enjoyed a sprinkling of shots from season two over the past weeks. Geralt, Ciri, and Yenneferdon new threads as their journeys continue across The Continent, following an explosive finale. Moreover, the Nilfgaardian soldiers' armor has been subject to a redesign; out with the wiggly tree roots, in with the generic, nondescript plates. Hooray. We also saw Henry Cavill build his own gaming PC. So that's there too.

Released in celebration of the spooky season, the new trailer is a reel of clips from the show, featuring Kikimora, Krallach, Hirrika, Dopplers, Ghouls, Dragons, Striga, and more. The whole kit and caboodle of creatures that range from wanting to gnaw the marrow from your bones to stealing supplies from a village for a greater cause.

However, eagle-eyed (or perhaps Witcher-eyed?) viewers have noted that two moments in this new trailer are actually never-before-seen scenes, and the trailer's description confirms this. "The White Wolf takes Halloween as a personal challenge," it read. "But keep your eyes peeled for a few sweet treats... you won't want to miss what's hidden."

These occur approximately 15 seconds and 30 seconds into the video, which is itself only 54 seconds long, so I've linked to the new monsters in these timestamps. One is a chunk of bone, talons, viscera, and what might even be an eyeball slinking into the shadows, in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it-but-maybe-that's-not-such-a-bad-thing-because-it's-kind-of-gross moment. The other is a trio of skeletons tied together, still garbed in the clothes and jewellery that the people were wearing when they died. Gazing royally in what might be a dingy crypt, I fully expect these three jokers to disappear when they're out of frame like a decrepit Weeping Angel.

As aforementioned, the second season was slated for 2021, but the upheaval caused by the pandemic might have altered schedules significantly. However, it shows that Netflix's The Witcher is progressing well for these new clips to be revealed, and good things come to those who wait.
