2020 is the year of Nemesis. The Resident Evil 3 remake's April 3rd release date is fast approaching, and Capcom has decided to share a brand-new trailer and some gorgeous new screenshots to get us in the mood. As if we weren't already in the mood for another masterful survival horror adventure.

Before we take a look at the new screens, check out the recently-released trailer below, if you haven't already. As Capcom previously teased, it looks like the upcoming remake will have a little more emphasis on action than the Resident Evil 2 remake. This, to be fair, is to be expected. After all, the original 1999 Resident Evil 3 was a more focused, action-oriented beast than 1998's Resident Evil 2.

The latest trailer also gives our best look yet at Nemesis. The terrifying mutant assassin will spend most of the game stalking Jill Valentine through the streets of Raccoon City. Capcom has said that the monster will be smarter, meaner, and altogether more terrifying than Resident Evil 2's Mr X/Tyrant. So that's good. And by good, I mean an incredibly stressful proposition.

"Umbrella Corp.'s unrelenting bioweapon hunts Jill with an arsenal of heavy duty weapons," Capcom wrote of Nemesis in a press release. "Including an enormous flame thrower and a laser-guided rocket launcher that leave little hope for escape. In addition to its hardware, a new screenshot depicts Nemesis' elongated tentacle mutation that strikes with lethal accuracy."

"These grotesque protrusions only emerge as the black bandages obscuring Nemesis' mutilated form fall apart to reveal the results of Umbrella's cruel experimentation. Jill tries multiple times to destroy Nemesis, but thanks to its highly regenerative capabilities, it keeps coming back stronger than before."

Basically then, if you bump into Nemesis, you'd best get to steppin'. Judging by the new screens of the beast in action, which you can see below, it really does like a fearsome adversary. Frankly, I'd argue it makes Mr X look like a teddy bear. A teddy bear that could crush your head like a pimple, sure, but a teddy bear all the same.

As a six-year-old lad who was first exposed to the terror of Nemesis when he saw his older cousins playing the original Resident Evil 3 back in '99, I don't mind telling you that the SOB gave me nightmares for quite some time. I look forward then, to this new, improved, and altogether more horrifying Nemesis helping me to relive those childhood nightmares. It should be quite an experience.

The good/bad news (depending on how ready you are for this gauntlet of horror) is that we definitely won't have to wait much longer for Resident Evil 3. Capcom has promised that the game is nearly finished, and won't miss its April 3rd release date. Unlike Final Fantasy VII Remake and Marvel's Avengers, which were both recently delayed by Square Enix in order to polish up the final products.
