So, this is kind of a weird one. According to a new rumour, it sounds like our first look at the next era of Star Wars movies will begin in a 2021 video game, of all places. We all know Disney now has a streaming service for dedicated TV shows that you'll need to watch to get the most out of the upcoming Marvel movies, but a video game introducing a brand new chapter in Star Wars? I'm not so sure.

As always, do treat these unverified rumours as exactly what they are - unverified. As spotted by VG247, Making Star Wars, a blog with an admittedly good history of accurately reporting Star Wars leaks, made some interesting claims about the next films.

The Rise Of Skywalker, as we know, wrapped up the "Skywalker Saga" in divisive fashion. The next era of movies then, will apparently take place 400 years before The Phantom Menace, during a time known as The High Republic. Specific details are thin on the ground, but it would seem that this new era, the era of The High Republic, will be an ambitious multimedia project.

Apparently, this next story is to be told over TV, film, and games. Disney is apparently referring to this next chapter as Project Luminous. While I'll again point out this is entirely unverified right now, a lot of the claims made by Making Star Wars were subsequently backed up by a separate source.

According to Ziro.hu, the first of Project Luminous' multimedia releases is to be a video game. Unfortunately, there's absolutely no information to suggest who might be making it, what kind of game it's going to be, or even what platforms it could come to. The only thing we have to go on is that it'll probably be released in 2021, which is when the new era of Star Wars kicks off in earnest.

For all we know at this stage, the mystery game could simply be a mobile tie-in, rather than a full-blooded console adventure game in the style of Jedi: Fallen Order. Frankly, I would imagine that's the far more likely scenario.

If this mysterious game really is so vital to kicking off the next series of Star Wars films, I'd bet Disney and LucasFilm would want to make the game as accessible and widely-available as possible. Hence, mobile game. We'll have to wait and see, but if Disney proved anything with Marvel, it's that people bloody love an interconnected universe.
