New Witcher Documentary Explores The Lore Behind Monsters Of The Show

Netflix's The Witcher series is equal parts watching Yennefer and Geralt flirt and watching Geralt almost die to a variety of terrifying monsters. In The Witcher books it's down to your imagination and in the game you get to make sure Geralt is 100% prepared for whatever beast you're facing - but the show gets you really up close and personal with some mythical beasts and their terrifying potential.

So Netflix has produced a mini-documentary for you to learn more about the monsters in The Witcher, and the second episode is on YouTube right now. The first instalment was released back in May, but The Witcher's Bestiary Part 2 shows us some of the monsters that make an appearance in the second part of the first season.

Surprisingly, the first entry to the bestiary isn't one we knew the name of from the show ,as we just see a decapitated head and not much else. But according to the books, it's likely that it's the head of a Basilisk that Geralt has just defeated. Netflix tells us just how deadly something like a Basilisk would be in the world of the Witcher and now we're a little put out that we didn't get to see Geralt take it on.

The episode also covers the Dragons we meet as well as the cute (but unfortunately demised) Hirikka Geralt and his rag-tag group of travelers discover on their way to find the flying serpents. And we're not to forget about the Ghouls - the creatures we encounter in Geralt's near fatal fight at the end of the series.

There's plenty of information and lore to sink your teeth into, so to speak, if you're waiting in anticipation for series 2 of the hit show. However, Henry Cavill just suffered an injury while filming, so has been upgrading his PC with a rather beefy NVIDIA 3090 GPU. If we were him, we'd inevitably dive back into The Witcher 3 to brush up on his beast-slaying knowledge.
