Who among us doesn't love the Nintendo 64? The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. Super Mario 64. Banjo Kazooie. GoldenEye 007. Nintendo's first properly 3D console really was home to some of the finest video games ever made and frankly, it's a damn crime that we still can't play most of 'em on Nintendo Switch.
The good news is that might be about to change. Known Nintendo insider NateDrake recently claimed that the Nintendo Switch Online service could soon receive a number of classic N64 games, although it's likely these titles would be locked behind a more expensive higher tier subscription. At present, Nintendo Switch Online costs £3.49 a month and grants players access to online multiplayer and a selection of NES and SNES titles.
Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, NateDrake touched on a report from Eurogamer which claimed Nintendo is likely to add "other retro platforms" to the online service soon.

"Eurogamer went one step further, having noted that additional platforms will also be added to Nintendo Switch Online in the future," he said. "And today I would like to add to that, yes - that information is accurate and one of the platforms that will be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online in the future is the revolutionary Nintendo 64.
"What I'm going to propose, is that when Nintendo 64 does come to Nintendo Switch Online it is going to come with a higher-priced tier - a premium version of Nintendo Switch Online if you will. "I don't think they would try to double the price of it... I'd come in at $30 a year, $35 would be the ceiling, any more than that I think Nintendo would be really pushing things."
Earlier this month NateDrake also claimed that Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles could be included in the Nintendo Switch Online's library soon. While this has yet to be officially announced, the report has since been corroborated by various reputable sources including Eurogamer and Nintendo Life.
Nintendo typically holds a Direct in September, so with any luck we'll find out more very soon. Watch this space.
