Gamer Sells PlayStation 5 To Buy N64 And Childhood Game Collection

What a hero.

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but it's not very easy to get hold of a PlayStation 5 right now. Most of the people out there selling next-gen consoles are scalpers asking for many times above the retail price, so if you managed to get one at cost? You're probably holding onto it tighter than you've ever held on to anything.

That's why I'm genuinely astonished, perhaps even slightly horrified, to learn that one gamer out there decided to sell his PlayStation 5 in exchange for a Nintendo 64 and modest collection of classic games for the retro system.

Now, I love the Nintendo 64. I want to make that very clear. It's a great system with some real all-timers. But I just couldn't imagine parting with any of my brand-new consoles just to revisit some old favourites. Then again, maybe I just don't have the passion that ResetEra user Traxus does.

In a post fittingly titled "Sold my PS5 for an N64 ...send help", Traxus explained that his "addiction" was reawakened when he saw a broken old CRT television lying by the side of the road.

"Conjuring up images from a lost time, the haunted relic called out to me, much like sirens of the old tales enticed unwary sailors to their doom," he explained. "I put it in my trunk, unleashing a cursed chain of events that would lead to me rebuilding and augmenting my childhood Nintendo 64 collection, almost breaking my back hunting down a much nicer (but also free) 27" Sony Trinitron, and selling my PS5 Digital Edition (for a small profit) to support my crippling addiction, much to my wife's chagrin."

Traxus stressed that he loved his PS5 and plans to pick one up again somewhere down the road. "I already had my fill of the wonderful launch titles and my digital library isn't going anywhere," he said. "I'll probably just jump back in when it's more widely available in stores around the launch of God Of War 2 or Horizon Forbidden West, possibly with an even better hardware revision.

"I have a couple children now and I feel like of all the retro consoles, the N64 is just fun as hell, especially for young kids with all of the amazing 3d platformers on the system. I've been playing Super Mario 64 with my boy and it holds up every bit as well as it played in 1996."

Traxus wants people to tell him he did the right thing, which is understandable. At the end of the day though, I think he knows he already did. If a Nintendo 64 is the thing to make him happy right now, then why shouldn't he say goodbye to the PS5 for the time-being? Plus, you really can't put a price on introducing your kid to The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.
