The Pokémon Company is expected to mark the 25th anniversary of the series on February 27 with a slew of new game announcements. The really exciting news? Confirmation of the long-rumoured Gen 4 remakes are thought to be a prominent part of the Birthday reveals later this week.

According to a report from reliable fan site Centro Pokémon, the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes will be releasing this year, and that the games are to be announced before February 27 (this Sunday).

"Fans won't have to hold out until Pokémon Day on February 27 for the big news they've been waiting for," reads the above tweet, which is accompanied by a gif of the Legendary Pokémon from Diamond & Pearl.

Rumours of a return to the Gen 4 games and the Sinnoh region have been floating around since late last year. According to an unverified leak from YouTuber RuffledRowlit back in September 2020, information passed on by an alleged coder at Game Freak suggested that the new games are due to release November 2021 and will be called Max Diamond and Max Pearl. It was also claimed that these remakes will bring over the Dynamax mechanic from Sword & Shield, a feature I can certainly see GameFreak bringing over.

Not long after that, another insider came forward. Kelios, a leaker with a strong track record of predicting Nintendo Direct release dates and other announcement info pertaining to the Big N, recently took to Twitter to tease the future of the Pokémon franchise.

"You're going to have your remake next November, stop complaining," Kelios said at the time. "And you will say; 'omg Pokémon is the best license'. And I find that the Pokémon license has improved in the general sense, there is something for everyone. Next year too, with New Snap / Pokémon UNITE / MRPG / Detective Pikachu 2."

Take all of this with a pinch of salt until it's confirmed, but it's looking more and more likely that the long-awaited Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes are coming this November! I guess we'll find out for sure this week.
