Open-World 'Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Has A Release Date, And It's Not Far Off

If Nintendo knows how to do anything, it's how to drop random announcements surrounding huge properties when we least expect it. The Pokémon Twitter account has just announced that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be releasing sooner than we think, in early 2022.

The official release date for Pokémon Legends: Arceus is now January 28, 2022. The game was announced as an open-world RPG-like interpretation of Pokémon in February of this year. It is being developed by Game Freak, of course, and will set gamers off on an adventure to explore the Sinnoh region like never before.

In case you missed the announcement trailer, here it is...

Pokémon Legends: Arceus's reveal was a bit of a shock in terms of franchise direction. Recently, we have seen Pokémon games manifest themselves in properties ranging from Pokémon Go, an AR mobile title, to Let's Go: Pikachu and Eevee, which reinvented the first Pokémon games as 3D worlds. Game Freak has experimented a lot with how they bring these pocket monsters to Switch and mobile, but even then, a huge open-world game that reminds us of The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, was a surprise.

Now fans are inevitably going to question if a new Nintendo Switch will be out by the time of release. The Switch has quickly become one of the best Nintendo consoles ever made, but lacks the power of the more recently released PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As next-gen console hardware is being released, fans are waiting for Nintendo to drop their own upgrade to the Switch's tech. The original console was, of course, launched back in 2017. Fans have obsessed over rumour after rumour of a buffed up Switch, but even with no official plans announced, we'll be looking forward to Pokémon Legends: Arceus on current hardware.
