The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series sounds better and better with every update. Disney has just confirmed that the excellent Indira Varma will be joining Ewan McGregor's titular hero and Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader in the Star Wars show when it arrives on Disney+ next year.

Varma is perhaps best known for playing Ellaria Sand in Game Of Thrones. Sand was, funnily enough, a romantic interest for Oberyn Martell in the HBO fantasy show, a character played by The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal. Small world, right? Outside of Game Of Thrones, Varma has won acclaim in a wide-range of series, including Carnival Row, Rome, and Luther. She's even lent her voice to a number of classic video games, including Mass Effect and World Of Warcraft.

As for who Varma may be playing? We don't know just yet, sadly, but the fans have some ideas. During a recent Disney Investor Day event, Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow teased a few things we can expect to see in the upcoming show. "We start on Tatooine, and we go on a rollicking adventure," the director said (via The Direct), before adding that it's a very unsafe time to be a Jedi. Presumably because the Empire is busy hunting down and killing every last one it can get its hands on.

Based on this small nugget of info, fans believe that Obi-Wan will be forced to flee Tatooine for a brief period, perhaps as a way to throw Darth Vader and The Empire off his scent before returning to the desert planet to continue keeping an eye on the young Luke Skywalker.

With Obi-Wan no doubt public enemy number one throughout the cosmos as one of the few remaining Jedi who poses a credible threat to Vader, it could very well be that Varma will be playing a Sith Inquisitor tasked with hunting the hero down. For those who might not be aware, Sith Inquisitors are basically elite Force users that serve Vader and the Empire, and typically stop at nothing to achieve their goals. They are terrifying, in other words.

We could definitely see Varma in a role like this, but it's worth noting this is mostly speculation right now. At this stage Varma could be playing anyone - though we don't doubt she'll absolutely nail it no matter what.
