It seems that wherever you look in the Tokyo Olympic games, there are video game references everywhere. Following the removal of the original composer for the games' music, video game themes and tunes were used in the opening ceremony and now, an olympian has won gold while wearing a Witcher medallion.

Spotted by Kotaku, Vitalina Batsarashkina, a Russian competitor in the 10m air pistol category has had a pretty good Olympic games. And by pretty good, we mean she's won gold, an incredible feat only made sweeter by the fact that she won silver back in Rio 2016 so she's finally achieved her dreams. Batsarashkina isn't only an incredible shot, however, she's also a Witcher super-fan.

We're gearing up to see season two of The Witcher on Netflix later this year...

As the athlete competed, as you can see in a video from ABC here, she wore a heavy silver medallion around her neck. It only takes a little squinting to see that it is in fact a Witcher medallion identical to the one you'd see Geralt of Rivia wear in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

According to the original report, she has a history of not only representing Russia but Andrzej Sapkowski's literary universe as well. The athlete has sported the medallion around her neck this time but in the past she had attached one to her trousers and she even has shooting glasses with Witcher illustrations on them. Sounds like she loves the series, and we can't blame her.

Though she may be Russian, Batsarashkina wasn't technically representing Russia at these games. The country was involved in a doping scandal which means between 2020 and 2022 it cannot enter into the biggest international sporting events in the world; the Olympics, the Paralympics, and the World Championships. Batsarashkina instead represented the ROC, the Russian Olympic Committee, and won their first gold of the competition.
