After what feels like several thousand years' worth of back and forth, we have have once again been told in fairly clearly terms that The Elder Scrolls VI is not coming to PlayStation 5.

Microsoft purchased Bethesda in a historic acquisition that left fans everywhere wondering what this meant for the iconic RPG series' future on PlayStation. It hasn't helped that Bethesda and Microsoft gave some pretty vague answers in the months following the deal. Now, however, those answers are getting more direct - and it's not the news PlayStation fans were hoping for.

Speaking of Skyrim, feast your eyes on our comprehensive travel guide to the rocky region below!

Over the weekend, fans believed the door had once again been opened for The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield to appear on PlayStation following an interview with Bethesda SVP of global marketing Pete Hines. He explained during a recent stream that the Microsoft acquisition didn't necessarily mean we'll never see another Bethesda game on PlayStation again.

"It's not a 'sorry, you're never going to get to play anything by Bethesda again'", he said. "Certainly, there are going to be things that you're not going to be able to play on PlayStation.

"[Starfield] was announced as a thing that's an Xbox exclusive", he added, before saying: "I don't know if I would go so far as to say you're done ever playing stuff on PlayStation. But again, I don't know the answer to that right now."

After fans took this to mean we might still see Starfield on PlayStation, Hines and Xbox boss Aaron Greenberg were forced to head to Twitter and clarify the situation. Again. "Starfield will be launching exclusively on Xbox Series X'S and PC on November 11, 2022. Game Pass members can play it day one as well on Xbox & PC. I know we have said this all before and none of that has or will change."

Meanwhile, Hines stated that he absolutely wasn't suggesting Starfield is coming to PlayStation 5. He then shared a Bob's Burgers GIF of a character clutching at straws to underline his point.

While neither Greenberg or Hines said anything about The Elder Scrolls VI specifically, reporter Jeff Grubb added that the fantasy RPG will also be an Xbox exclusive. This echoes comments from Xbox's Phil Spencer, who hinted as much just a few months ago. Basically, I'd advise you stop waiting to hear The Elder Scrolls VI is PlayStation-bound. You'll only be disappointed.
