It turns out that Fallout: New Vegas was the Star Wars game of our dreams this entire time - who would have thought it? Modders have been hard at work altering Bethesda's beloved apocalyptic adventure into something a little more space orientated, and it looks like the open-world Star Wars game we never had. It's gorgeous.

Star Wars Open Worlds is a creative passion project from a group of modders who wanted to create a fully explorable Star Wars environment. The website was spotted by Eurogamer and the basis of the story is that we as players are "uprooted from our home and thrown into this galaxy far, far away for the first time, experiencing it from an outsider's perspective. Abducted by slavers and recovering from the initial shock we are left with no choice but to join a small crew planning an escape from captivity ... while the rising tide of the newly founded Galactic Empire sweeps across the galaxy!"

Mods and Star Wars obviously go hand-in-hand as Microsoft Flight Sim modders took to adding the X-wing to the game...

It's all set during the early years of the Empire, the game once completed aims to allow gamers to travel freely between 12 planets and choose a path. Your character could be Dark side, Light side, Gray, or Sandbox - deciding which path to play will alter the story's journey and conclusion as well as influence the companions you're allowed to pick.

Of course, this isn't an official game by any means, which is why it's not monetised at all - the modders aren't making a penny from this project otherwise a cease and desist would already be on its way. Instead, this is just a fun thing that Tank_Girl444 and Karim Najib are working on when they can. You can take a look at the footage they've put together on the project below.

Star Wars Open Worlds is in active development currently but there is not yet an alpha build for people to download and explore. We can't wait for the team to eventually release a version of familiar scenes we can explore ourselves.
