‘New World’ Players Are Winning Wars By Banning The Best Soldiers

New World is a state at the moment. The foundations of the MMORPG are shaking with war after war, pitting players against their toughest competition in order to defend what's theirs. However, some are finding a little loophole that turns the tide - mass report the players on the opposing side, trigger some 24 hour bans and thereby stop them from fighting in the oncoming battle.

Ah, gamers. You are wily ones, aren't you? Always showing us the brightest sides of humankind in your altruism and justness. Of course, I'm being sarcastic. It's not like sabotage has never been used in warfare before, but those were real wars, and these are made up in a made up world. And given that the stakes are slightly lower here than the Battle of the Boyne, for example, you'd think that players would be content to adhere to the rules of engagement and participate in a fair fight.

Check out the trailer for New World here, featuring the gorgeous Aeternum Island.

I'm sorry to disappoint. If you scroll through the game's subreddit, players are livid that they've been suddenly banned ahead of a battle, skewing the odds in the favour of the opposing faction. Players represent factions in their companies and they're able to control territory with said company, generating currency from players trading items or using its crafting stations. So, there is a motivation to take those settlements for your own.

"The incentive and payoff for mass reporting is too high. There's almost no chance the ticket can be reviewed before the war occurs, so you can guarantee to remove multiple players from the war," explained one player. "Most of our players are offline right now, but we have 3 confirmed bans already... all level 60 players."

"Syndicate lost Winsward that has held it since the start because of this... and we lost to [Covenant] which only had a single territory on my server till now," complained another. "1 Cov Company now holds 3 territories in one day (maybe 2, not sure, but suddenly 1 cov company holds many territories is the point)."

The community agrees that the reporting and banning system needs to be revised to stop manipulation like this poisoning the entertainment that New World offers. We'll have to see what solutions Amazon Games offers in the near future.
