Rockstar Should Make A Pirate Game, This 'Red Dead Redemption 2' Mod Proves It

Every now and again you realise something that should have been glaringly obvious from the start. Today, I realised that Rockstar Games should make an open-world pirate adventure, and I can't quite believe it's taken me this long to see what a good fit that would be for the Grand Theft Auto studio.

It just makes sense, doesn't it? Rockstar has put us in the shoes of modern day criminals and Wild West bandits, of merciless killers and high school bullies. Every game the studio has ever built is a beautifully immersive window into another world, another life. Can you imagine Rockstar doing with pirates what it did with cowboys in Red Dead Redemption 2? I can't stop imagining, and it's all thanks to a stunning mod that turns the 2018 Western into a high-seas adventure.

This gorgeous piece of work comes via YouTuber Devilbringer Games. While the mod doesn't change or add anything in terms of gameplay, it does serve as a tantalising visual showcase of what a Rockstar-developed pirate game might look like. See for yourself below!

So what's actually going on in the video? Devilbringer Games has basically attempted to make the game look more "realistic" by turning all the graphics settings up to max and making use of a photorealistic reshade mod. The pirate gear is really more for decoration than anything else, but seeing the character explore a beautifully lit version of Red Dead Redemption 2's Guarma and its crumbling ruins has me hankering for a proper pirate adventure.

For now, sadly, a Rockstar pirate game is nothing more than wishful thinking on my part. While we have no idea what the studio is currently working on, it's highly likely that Grand Theft Auto VI will be its next brand-new release. Here's hoping someone at Rockstar sees this mod and realises the huge potential of a nautical crime epic set on the high seas.
